On Friday July 7th 2017 twenty eight members of the GHSC gathered to play a very pleasant 18-hole scramble at the beautiful Guelph Country club.
The weather pundits had told us that we were almost certain to be hit by heavy storms, but all players braved the day, and in fact we experienced nothing worse than a mild sprinkling early in the proceedings. We played the 18 holes in pleasant weather, which even became sunny and hot later in the round.
The course was in fine condition, and was much appreciated by the players.
After play, we enjoyed refreshment, and perused the items on display at the trade tables.
A steak dinner was served, and a short auction followed.
The scores were reviewed.
Winners were GHSC President David Burgess, David's son, David's grandson, and Eric Reid, with an incredible score of -12 (or -11 – there was some confusion).
Runners up were Bill Southall, Ron Wiens, Frank Whelan, and Bill Stewart.
2nd runners up were Ian Clarke, Rick Harper, Adrienne Blair, and Craig Blair.
3rd runners up were Ken Leedham, Russell Dick, Paul Ready, and Byron Ready.
Finally Bill Stewart introduced GHSC member Tony Matlock to say a few words about our next Hickory Hackers Scramble, which will be held at Merry Hill GC, a course which Tony designed.
Thanks to Frank Collis for his fine pictures of this event (see below).
