The final event of the 2019 Ontario Hickory Tour was played at Oak Gables Golf Club in Ancaster, Ontario on Thursday August 15th, 2019. A couple of players had to cancel a couple of days before the event, due to scheduling conflicts, but then we also had a couple of late registrants. 25 players teed off in the Bobby Jones (post-1900) Division, and 2 in the Old Tom Morris (pre-1900) Division. We were also joined by a couple of non-playing guests.

The weather was pretty much ideal - fine and cool with a light breeze, and only a few drops of rain. I believe everyone present had a good time.

We played the Maple nine followed by the Oak nine. Bobby Jones (post-1900) players went from the white tees, for a playing length of around 3,910 yards, and Old Tom Morris (pre-1900) players from the yellow tees for a playing length of around 3,580 yards.

There was a shotgun start at 10 am - and it was a real shotgun start, with Tour co-organizer Russell Dick firing the off with black-powder blanks from both barrels of his antique fowling piece (permission had been duly obtained from the local Firearms Officer).
GHSC Treasurer Ian Clarke was winner for the day in the Bobby Jones (post-1900) Division, with a round of 72, and 49.8 Modified Stableford points; joint runners-up were George Supol and Lorne Emery, with rounds of 75 and 46.8 points. Fourth in line was Jim Holland, with a round of 77 and 44.8 points.

Old Tom Morris (pre-1900) winner for the day was Rick Harper, with a round of 80 and 41 points.

Following play, participants and guests enjoyed refreshment in the club house. Then a steak dinner was served.

After all had finished the excellent meal, there was a prize-giving. Bottles of "Ontario Hickory Tour Winner's Wine" were presented to the division winners in each event of the year. Division champions for the year were ceremonially presented with silver trophies (which, sadly, they don't get to keep), and given a bottle of fine Sardinian wine to take home.
