The Golf Historical Society of Canada took to the links this past weekend. Equipped with only Brassies and Mashies (old clubs), they kept in the spirit of turn of the century style golf. #golfhistoricalsocietyPosted by Port Hope Golf and Country Club on Thursday, July 19, 2018

On a beautiful Sunday summer day some 49 hickory players gathered at Port Hope to enjoy some hickory golf.
With the cooling breezes from adjacent Lake Ontario tempering the very hot sun, it was a most pleasant day on the challenging golf course.
The day started with a trade show, which, given the fine weather, we were able to hold outdoors. Many interesting items were offered for sale, and participants enjoyed viewing and dealing in the shade of the trees.
Twenty eight players played a two man scramble East vs West, with the East triumphing 12 to 9 in well competed matches.
Seventeen more players played our normal 4 person scramble with the team of Jeff Rogers, Dave Blocksidge and Chuck Vetere low scorers with a fine result of 59, 8 under par.
The course was in excellent condition, and offered some spectacular views as the holes wound their way up and down steep slopes, past mature trees, and round verdant ponds. Greens were often well defended, with some fierce bunkers.
After golf the folks adjourned to the Historic Penryn Park mansion for a tasty steak dinner and the presentation of the prize trophies.
This was the third East-West Match, and the East takes the lead with their second win in this rivalry. Next year we will play our fourth challenge, to be held at BraeBen in Mississauga, off the 401 at Mavis Rd.
Congratulations to all who attended and enjoyed this event. To the organizers Jeff Rogers and Doug Marshall, who received hearty applause from the players, thank you! Thanks also to Bob West who rounded up an Eastern team and made the matches possible.
