National Hickory Golf Day
Many Golf Clubs and other Venues
USA & elsewhere

National Hickory Golf Day is a day dedicated to share the joy of collecting, history & playing golf with wood-shafted clubs. Celebrated on the 1st Sunday in May each year, the promotion was proposed by SoHG member Durel Billy, who is chairman of the AP National Golf Club in Seattle, Washington. "Quite simply," said Durel Billy, "the goal is to celebrate the hickory era on one coordinated day across the country and internationally. Not solely for hickory players, but for collectors, historians, artists, past golf legends, you name it. It is a day we can all target to bring awareness to various aspects of the sport we all love. We can do this by hosting a trade show, a demo day, a history class in our respective regions, a tournament, a memorial and so on. These decisions are meant for the regional leaders, groups, associations to decide how they wish to celebrate. Not all groups have a robust membership or event schedules, so National Hickory Golf Day is meant to assist all to kickoff their season the way they wish. We ask that all participating regions or individuals register as participants, promote NHGD, take photos and share their activities via social media. Just imagine if we have 50-100 type of hickory era activities happening on one day, what type awareness we could bring?"
Golf Historical Society of Canada Members can do their part by participating in an individual or group hickory golf initiative.
Let us know what you are planning, and we can list activities on this web site.
After the event, forward any pictures or descriptions of your activities, and we will feature them on the web site and in a future issue of the GHSC JIGGER.
The important thing is to participate in a hickory activity on Sunday, May 7, 2017 to bring attention to the history of the hickory era of golf.
