Dundas Valley (2023)

A Nice Welcome from the Club

GHSC News Item: October 12, 2023 – Dundas Valley (2023) Reported by: George Supol, GHSC Hickory Ambassador.

On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Bill Southall ran this year’s Dundas Valley Hickory Sticks (DVHS) Event. This is Bill’s home club and as always, the course was in brilliant shape. Last year, the event was held in honour of Bill Stewart, another GHSC member/DVHS co-organizer who had recently passed.

This year, we ended up with 30 hickory players, which included several Dundas Valley members who joined in. For the most part, the weather cooperated and the rain held off until our last group made it off the course.

The winners of the Gross Stableford Toonie competition were:

  1. John Beauchesne – 22 pts; Bill Southall – 22 pts
  2. Frank Gunn – 21 pts.

The winners of the Age-Adjusted Net Stableford Toonie competition were:

  1. Pete Van Beurden – 22 pts.
  2. Ron Wiens – 20 pts; Stan Lapidus – 20 pts.

Two closest-to-the pin (15th and 17th) winners, Chris Cade and Jon Beauchesne respectively, each won a nice bottle of wine provided by Bill Southall.

Of special note were the wild turkeys and deer that seemed to pop up on different holes throughout the round. Our players enjoyed taking pics of these animals with their cell phones.

A special thanks goes to Bill Southall for running the event and also to the golf professionals and staff at Dundas Valley for their wonderful hospitality and awesome attitude. Also, thanks to Lorne Emery, GHSC President, who handled the scoring and prizes.

The group and animal pics below were mostly taken by Frank Collis, GHSC Member and Photographer. The prize winner pics were taken by Allan Lew. A few additional pics were added by George Supol and Stan Lapidus. Click on any image below to see its larger version. Finally, three additional pics were taken at Dundas Valley of Ontario Open prize winners (Chris Cade, John Madeiros and Peter Van Beurden) and those pics were added to the Ontario Open news post here.
