Feb Golf in Ontario (2023)

GHSC News Item: February 14, 2023 – Feb Golf in Ontario (2023)

Reported by: Lorne Emery, GHSC Hickory Ambassador and Board Member

GHSC Ambassadors and their friends are a hearty lot (some think we’re crazy). So when the weatherman predicts balmy temperatures and sun, and Fescue’s Edge Golf Club (located in Scotland Ontario) is open, we’re going to play. In fact some of us decided to play both days.

On Sunday, February 12, ten of us brought either classic steel or modern golf clubs to play with. The weather was perfect and with no wind, the layers of clothing peeled off quickly. The course was in good shape for February making for a very pleasant round. The illustrious group included historical golf celebrities Ken Leedham and Russell Dick along with four GHSC board members.

A good day was had by all and several of us decided to play the next day, this time with hickory clubs. Monday was another sunny day with a high temperature matching the day before. The big difference was that the wind picked up making it feel somewhat cooler, after all it is the middle of winter. Deal with it. This was a hickory day, and despite the challenging wind, the scores were very respectable. Mike, Vaughn, Gerald and I were pleased at the opportunity to play back to back days, in February no less.

Playing golf in the winter is a lot of fun. Once you learn how to dress in layers, you are comfortable and playing beats sitting on the couch pining for the golf course. Winter golf is also a great time to pull out any old clubs you may have sitting around.
