GHSC News Item: October 30, 2021 Post-1900 Hickory Play

Location: Cambridge Golf Club, Cambridge ON

Reported by: George Supol, GHSC Board Member

On October 30, 2021, twenty-five players, mostly members of Cambridge GC, played either post-1900 hickory golf (11 players from the yellow tees) or modern golf (14 players from the white tees) in the 21st annual Long Johns end-of-season golf tournamentCourse conditions were extremely wet and motorized carts were not allowed on the course.

In the modern clubs section, Paul Ready shot a 77, with Karl Kopersky and Cory Eberharft only one shot behind. These were very respectable scores on a day where it was cool, windy, and where the balls were picking up a lot of mud.

In the hickory section, Nick Pileggi and his friend Alan Park (a hickory rookie) tied for the lead with 86. Four other players were within two strokes of the lead resulting in a close competition.

After the golf, the players enjoyed frosty beverages and both chicken fingers and quesadillas inside the clubhouse. Lorne Emery, Long Johns event organizer, handed out prizes and took the photo of the official Long Johns Trophy presentation.

Below are some pics taken by Lorne Emery from two of the hickory player groups.
