Return to Royal Ashburn (2022)

GHSC News Item: May 19, 2022 – Return to Royal Ashburn (2022)

Reported by: Jeff Rogers, GHSC Board Member and President

Despite some spotty weather forecasts, May 19th provided 30 GHSC Hickory players with a glorious day for a totally fun get together at this favourite venue. The course was in excellent early-season condition … sadly the same can’t be said for most of us. We were even able to entice a handful of newby hickory players to come out and give the game a try the way it was meant to be played and are hopeful that we’ll be seeing them again real soon!

Despite a somewhat cool and overcast start, the sun was shining and the sky turned blue as everyone began to wind their way along these 18 holes. The day started with a boot sale in the parking lot that did see a number of great items change hands and happy buyers stashing their finds before they headed to the first tee! Of note were—a lovely James Braid mashie, an unusual Augusta National 12th Hole Business Card Holder and a nice reproduction featherie ball made in Toronto.

This was a well attended event in all respects with Members coming from as far away as Kingston, North Bay and St. Catherines. All of the feedback indicated that a great time was had by everyone and with some luck, we will be able to reconvene at Royal Ashburn again in the fall. After golf, the ‘hickory horde’ made their way to the Clubhouse Sunroom for a snack, or dinner, a few beverages and an ample amount of discussion on the events of the day. Somehow the same golfer made off with BOTH Closest-to-the-Pin prizes – well done Chris!

Thanks to the Management and Staff at Royal Ashburn for making us feel so welcomed and for making this a great day for all. We hope to see you again before the season ends!
