World Hickory Golf Day (2022)

GHSC News Item: May 3, 2022 – World Hickory Golf Day (2022)

Reported by: George Supol, GHSC Board Member

World Hickory Golf Day was held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Cambridge Golf Club, about an hour’s drive from Toronto. The location is the home of GHSC and also served as the backdrop for the Society’s branding video, “Hickory Freedom.”

Fifty players attended this celebration of hickory golf and it was great to see many players decked out in their historical golf attire. There were several first-time hickory players in attendance and they were provided with period-appropriate golf caps to wear. A few of our GHSC players played a team Stableford competition against a group of Australasian hickory players.

The weather presented a challenge for some players, as it was cool and rainy at times during the afternoon. Even so, the course played well given its softness and the greens were still quite fast.

Thanks to Lorne Emery for organizing this event. Thanks also to Carla Munch-Miranda, Cambridge’s golf pro, and her staff for looking after our members and guests so well.
