GHSC News Item: October 12, 2021 Post-1900 Hickory Play

Location: Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club, Dundas ON

Reported by: George Supol, GHSC Board Member

On October 12, 2021, thirty-eight GHSC members including a few invited guests played post-1900 hickory golf on the scenic and challenging Dundas Valley golf course. Of the thirty-eight players, nine were members of Dundas Valley G&CC. Overall, this was a great turnout given we are still operating under Covid-19 protocols.

This classic course, designed by Stanley Thompson in 1929, was in excellent shape though still very wet from recent rains. The club applied a cart-path-only policy for the day. Nevertheless, the greens were still very fast with many subtle breaks and difficult pin positions.

Everyone this reporter spoke with, who had played Dundas Valley for the first time, really loved the course (including this reporter). Thanks to Bill Southall, Bill Stewart and Lorne Emery for organizing and running a great event. Thanks also to the club’s management, as well as pro shop and hospitality staff for their excellent service.

Ten pictures from Dundas Valley are presented in the gallery below. These include pics of: the course (holes #5, #11/#2), golf shots of Rick Murray, Stan Lapidus with first-time hickory player Jon Beauchene, Allan Lew and his Dundas Valley group, and finally a bunch of us having beverages on the patio afterwards.
